Help-Beretta Laramie does not fire!
« on: February 17, 2022, 11:18:34 AM »
Hi  I just purchased a used, but NIB Beretta Laramie
It seems to function but when I took it to the range the firing pin does NOT seem to strike the primer
The weapon does NOT fire
Any experts out there-I need your help!

Sound like the automatic safety on the hammer consisting of the sliding bar is your issue.
The bar automatically resets itself between the hammer and the frame, preventing accidental discharge.
It is either gummed up preventing movement or its broken.
Replacements are at VTI Gun Parts

If the hammer safety is supposed to slide up and down..it does not

There you go, therein lies the rub, no pun intended  :)

(You probably know this, Beretta owns Uberti, and Uberti made the Beretta Laramie, what is call badge engineering)
I have the Uberti version without the transfer bar.

So-My gunsmith (a very skilled guy) ended up taking out the hammer safety block assembly.  Apparently the previous owner went into the gun, and in an attempt to do a home "tune up" ended up basically destroying safety block and making the un inoperable.   I am hoping that the gun will now function normally

With my Uberti Schofield, the safety may have "fallen out".  I would never disable a superfluous safety which only has the potential to make the gun operate less well.  ::)  I can say that the gun has functioned perfectly for a number of years now without the hammer block safety in place.  On the other hand, that does mean that I can't rely on mechanical safeties and have to engage my brain when handling guns, but I can handle that.

Thank you sir.  Of course, I was speaking theoretically of removing the hammer block safety.  My gunsmith would never deliberately remove.  Interesting to note that if it should happen that it fell out, the gun would operate smoothly.

with thanks

That particular feature of Uberti top breaks is well known for falling out.
Civilize them with a Krag . . .

Interesting.  The hammer block safety somehow fell out and the gun operates flawlessly

I'm clued in with "safety fell out" and the "lost my guns in a boating accident"
and other "tongue firmly in cheek" retorts.

I on the other hand freely report, as in my JM Marlin, the Cross-bolt safety was removed deliberately and replace with the available replacement screw.
I use the safety between my ears.
I also chose the Uberti NM #3 over the Beretta Laramie for same reason "no transfer bar"
Would not buy the safety retracting hammer SAA either....
Don't own any Ruger's with TB hammers any more.

I do wear seat belts, a helmet when I had a my motorcycle, never crossed my wife and other such safety features.  :)

The Uberti NM#3 and the "Berretta" nee Uberti Laramie have the exact same safety.  If you have a NM#3 without one, then it fell out sometime in the past . . .  ::)
