Greetings all.

Life here is boring. Pretty much everything is closed down on base. We're also going back 100 years to 1920 with a full blown prohibition on intoxicating beverages. So that's fun. I'm not terribly upset by it, but I was kind of looking forward to a Cold One this weekend. Such is life.

There is a segment of the Pony Express Trail that comes into Carson City, NV.  Helped to dedicate a marker near Dayton Nv. That now runs through a part of land that is now the (Mound House Bunny Ranch).  It ran close to the route US 50, now a major Highway into Carson City, then over the Carson and Sierra ranges into Sacramento.

Being held hostage for so long I’ve been going through my thoughts and stuff on the history of the area.  As the activity here seems to be dropping off, I was wondering if anyone else has dug into the back story of the area they live in.  I know there are a lot of us that do so, but maybe others have stories to tell?

Indeed  the Florida Frontier is rich in history and pioneer life and the cattle wars of the 1870s in central Florida .

Social distancing

Gonna antisocial distance pretty soon.   Not a good idea to use tannerite on a TV in the house. ::)  BTW the reason your internet is running slow is all them netflix and other similar stuff that does streaming mindless reruns uses a lot of bandwidth and most are texting at the same time also.  Trying to do research this afternoon was ridiculous. :P

My better-half's ancestors moved to this area of WI in the 1850's. We live on land that Baldwin Sears land patented in 1852. He was the husband of my better-half's great-great-great-great aunt. My mother-in-law lives on land settled by my better-half's great-great-great grandmother.

The township is Leon. In the 1850 census is was called Indian Sands. During the census, the county was Marquette. In 1850, it was divided making Marquette, Green Lake and Waushara counties. We live in Waushara.

My Brooks ancestors moved to the town of Lind, Waupaca county, in 1855. This is a 10 minute drive north.

Coffee is up.... it is either a little thick or the bandwidth is slowing down the pour.

Had Palm Sunday service yesterday evening from the Internet. There was a bit of lag in it the last 6 minutes or so.

Gen-Wu. Sounds good.

Biscuits and gravy for breakfast. Hopefully the gamers and Netflixers will take a break later so church won't have to buffer.

Had some ancestors on my Dad's side of the family in the area as early as 1850. GG Grandmother was born in Mo I think before 1840. Colvin and Jefferies families came in the 1850s, all settled within a 30 minute drive from where I am now. First Richardson ancestor came sometime in the 1870s, was in Indiana and Kentucky before that.

Don't have nearly as much on my Mom's side. So far most of my searching has been with a free website of census data, and it doesn't produce many results for them.

Afternoon all.

Sheppard AFB is still here. Still on lockdown. Still nothing to do.  Weather has been cool, with a pretty steady 20mph wind.  Makes marching fun.

On the subject of ancestors, on my paternal line, we can trace them back to Ireland in the 1740s, and into the Carolinas later. One fought in the Revolution. Then they went to Arkansas, and were there until 1905. Then the went to California, where the family has stayed until today.
Maternally, her family came from Germany in the 1860s, to Boston. Then on to Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas. Then they all moved to California between 1940-1970. So that's my family tree.

Most of the history of my areas came after the move to the West Coast, but I have learned a tad more about the area of my birth.  I learned that the name of the city I called home for the 1st twenty something years of my life was a French word “Racine” on the “Root” river.  “Racine” is French for “Root”.  Evidently when French trappers first found the mouth of the river flowing into lake Michigan they almost passed it by because it was clogged with logs and tree roots.
Besides being the home of J. I. Case Manufacturing (the name of  High school I graduated from in ’69), S. C. Johnson, Insinkerator disposals, Horlicks Malted Milk Balls, I never really understood what the city gave to later history until I moved away.
Our family was rather spread out across the Midwest (Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan), But did have an established base of local family members as is evident by the article in the Racine Journal Times.  I was about 8 months old at the time, and one to the last 23 great grand kids.

By the way, always refer to him as Grandpa with the mustache.

This was the property they owned, lived in and refused to move out of until they both had passed!

I think the kid in the middle of the table with his back to the camera was me.

I'm not sure, but Brady had been dead for 51-52 years when this was taken.  I have no idea of who of my "then extend family" my have taken the photo.  I don't really recognize anyone in the picture, but do remember the tar paper shack they lived in as I got older.  Again, I was only about 3-4 years old then.  Found the photo in an old album my mother had just before her passing.  Wish she had put more notes on the backs of the photos so I could ID more of the people in this and other snapshots.
