Cimarron's Richards Type II front sight material
« on: September 17, 2018, 09:23:01 PM »
What material are these front sights made from?

They are not brass blades like original 1860's or conversions of &/or modern repro 1860's.  They are not german-nickel like on the 1872 Open Top's.

It looks like maybe steel that is blued on both sides and polished on top and back radius.

Have you altered your front sight?  If so, how?  With what?   I was thinking brass or silver model paints.  Or brass rub-on stuff.

Comments please.

Last night I found a gun review article that stated the front sights on both the 1872 and Richards II, are the same white metal.

So today I used a 3M pad and gently rubbed on the 1860 conversion sight and it did brighten up.

May still make it look brass like originals.

Thanks
