Went up to Virginia City yesterday, for the Camel Races.  Later we stopped at the Bucket of Blood Saloon for a couple Bloody Marys.  While there the saloon was paid a visit by one of the camels.  He was led in the front door, took a walk along the bar, turned and was led back out.  A very calm and sedate camel he was.  He showed less excitement that most of the human crowd.

Hedrick's Promotions, Inc. out of Kansas  Besides the several camels, they have zebras, Emus and Ostriches that race also.

This is from last years races:

Greetings from Dallas. tried Bakers BBQ Deep Ellum ,  last week and tonight we went to Lockhart's BBQ both good,
I think I like Bakers a bit better.

Hard to believe 15 years have passed since that MORNING !
one of those life changing moments in history, you knew exactly where you were , and what you were doing.

Like November 22, 1963,  53 years ago ...at this writing,  I'm staying just few block away from Dealey Plaza, Dallas,Texas.
I went to the Depository JFK Museum , last year when I was here...

I wonder if they had to "walk a mile to get their camel".

I was at work sorting mail 15 years ago. Next carrier over had a radio on, said a plane hade hit the World Trade Center. no other details, we just thought it was some misguided Cessna pilot-until the next newscast.

December 7th. is one of those ...like Nov. 22 ,1963  or 9/11
Game changers

a few like July 20, 1969
or sadly January 28, 1986 , 30 years ago are similar but perhaps not to the degree of the 3 above.

I imagine the golden spike May 10, 1869 when Union and Central Pacific Railroads joined their rails at Promontory Summit.
Wright Brother's flight @ Kitty Hawk had the same effect. on their generation.

Morning all.

Yesterday the family went over to a town called Scotia about five miles inland from the Pacific ocean.  We were there for a picnic for a club my dad and I belong to.  Also kind of an "olde fart convention."   ;)   Younger siblings and I mostly just went to the river and skipped rocks.  Though I did manage to grab a fish out of the water with my hand.  6' Cut Throat Trout.  He'd been nabbed and released by a raptor it looked like, but he was still peppy enough that he tried squiring away.  I let him go, but the bird won the fight in the end and he became food for the bigger fish.

On That Day, I was just a little guy.  But, it's not something I will ever forget - what little I do remember.  I remember seeing the second plane hit on TV.  I remember several family members in law enforcement being out for almost three days, and I remember a couple friends of ours in the Guard gearing up and heading overseas.  In 2006, my cousin joined the Navy when he got out of high school, and his unit patch had the towers on it.  And now, I'm joining the military in a couple of months.

Got blind sided this morning. Got a call from my youngest son that his brother had collapsed at work and was in emergency surgery in West Virginia. Brian had had another episode when he was younger that ended up with a complete reconstruction of his femoral arterial set up. He made it through that one. This time, I suspect, that the plumbing job failed and he didn't make it through the surgery :-[ :'(

I've lost a son at 45 years old. He leaves behind two daughters and a son, plus a new wife( who I've never met) and two step daughters. No particulars as yet, I'm kind of on the low end of the info list :'(
I might be slow, but I'm mostly accurate.....

I am so sorry to hear this, Buck, my prayers and sympathy to you and your family.  It has to be the most heart wrenching thing to lose a child, at any age. I can not imagine the feeling.  Be strong, Pard.

Talked to my ex this evening. We both had a good cry together. His new wife didn't want to let him go after he died, she laid in the bed with him for two hours afterwards. When my ex called me, they were just getting ready to send him to the funeral home :-[ :'(
