A friend had a cousin die, and was given a couple of guns. He had me come over and look at the one.
the lock says U.S. Springfield 1864, just like my Allen conversion trapdoor, but the barrel is about 6''
shorter and their is only 1 barrel band, and the stock stops a couple inches ahead of that 1 band.
There is no support on the front of the ramrod and there is no rear sight. Was there a version made
like this or was it altered as I suspect. Supposedly it's been in the family since the civil war. Did the
union soldiers get to keep their guns? Thanks
