Another knife and sheath....

I had some antler left over from my last project and it turned out so well that my pard asked me to make him a skinning knife for his father as a gift.... Here is the end result. I think it turned out well.

 Pard that looks goods, i realy like it! the lilte knife is cool, great job on the handles, and you cannot beat, backet weave!

   Nice work MT, that is a perfect skinning knife pard, one that will give great control, your sheath is also nice, the stag grips look great and finish it off well, your friends Dad will be happy for sure. ;D

RT - where do you want to start? with a chunk of steel and make your own blade - stock removal or forged? and then do the rest.... Or do you want to start with a pre-made blade and do the rest? Plenty of options and I'll be glad to offer any advice in either direction - starting from scratch is of course more labor, training, and tool intensive, but can be done on a budget. Starting with a blade is of course easier and less costly for start up.......

  Tac, that is very cool. Ilove the shape and flow of the blade and the sheath is a perfect complement to the knife . Great work!

Thanks for all the kind words pards..... I am happy with the way it turned out. That sheath is actually the second one I made for it. The first one was about 98% done when I messed up the last inch of stitching and ruined it.... (Not the first project I had to start over, but sure would be glad if it were the last! :)) Knowing that this was to be a gift to a loved father from his son, I couldn't settle for anything but the best I knew how to make, so I started over.

Rolling Thunder... I don't make my own blades, as I do not have that kind of knowledge or skill. I buy my blank blades and handle them with the material that I want, then build the sheath that I think fits the knife's style and purpose. I buy my knife building supplys from Jantz knife supply.  Look them up on the net at www.jantzsupply.com They have just about everything you would need and offer a pretty good selection of blank blades and kit knives. They also sell a pretty decent selection of leather working supplies.
