Who were Arbuckle Coffee's artist?
« on: September 14, 2015, 03:07:58 PM »
Howdy, all.

I'm a out of work (retired) school marm with a question. As you can see by my name, I like collectin' Arbuckle Coffee stuff.  I have looked high and low for experts about sumthin' I see somewhat chatted about in here.

Who is the painter, drawyer or artist that is credited with that beautiful Flyin' Angel on the signs and boxes of Arbuckle Coffee? I know they're prob'ly dead, but I would like to see if I can copy the angel on sumthin' that I won't be sellin.

Where would I look to find this artist or the patent, or trademark owner of this be--u---tee--ful lady?

Thanks, ya'all!!

Well I'd start out by calling the present Arbuckle Company and see how much they know.

Did you ever figure out what ARIOSA means, the name of course of their first and most popular blend?

Well . . . in Italian, "arioso" refers to vocal music (mostly in opera) that is more melodic than recitative, but less formal than an "aria" - in other words, kinda like an aria. I'd guess "Ariosa" was just another one of those slips that happen because English-speakers ain't accustomed to gender in Latin languages ? Seems logical to me, the Arbuckle folks meant to say their coffee was something to sing about ?

Nope, so simple if you understand history and what was going on in the coffee world of the time, refered to the source, the largest producer of coffe at the time was in the area of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.

Arbuckles RIO South America  Ariosa.

They had other blends, one the original company sold only at Christmas time  Yuletide Blend  or as they called it YUBAN, someone else bought the rights and it still shows up on store shelves.

I t may have been something they paid someone a few bucks to design and never gave them credit or even bothered to record the name, peopel wern't as worried about things like that and some down and out artist might have just been glad to have $20 bucks or what ever they paid him.
