Remington Autoloading Gun
« on: February 11, 2017, 12:23:51 PM »
A Zoot shotgun followed me home from the toy store yesterday. A Remington Autoloading Gun made in 1910, which is a pre-Model 11. Disassembled, cleaned and reassembled it last night. Shot it during my morning walk. This is my first self-loading shotgun.  ;D

Well! If it isn't the old 1903 Browning auto-5 design(of 1898). That's the very same gun that caused the divorce between JMB and Winchester. When the folks at Winchester told JMB they wanted the rights of the design but weren't going to produce it because they had recently released the 1897 pump and thought it would kill it's sales.

JMB sold the rights to FN of Belgium and  later Remington got licensed from FN to produce it the US.

Great buy Slim!

You could have had it since 1900, if it wasn't for Winchester greedy little fingers. ::)

Winchester woke up after the Remington move. In 1911 they marketed their own self loader, but had to work around JMB's patents.  ;D

Back when I shot trap regularly I used an old Remington 11.  Great gun!  I think it cost me a whopping $150 back then..........

The Model 11 and Auto 5 are both in heavy demand for Zoot matches.   Most of them have had the barrels cut back to the length of their aftermarket extended magazine tubes.  My 11 is tricked out in just this fashion.

Clyde Barrow was famous for cutting his guns down, everything from shotguns to Browning Automatic Rifle's stolen from National Guard Armories.  Lawmen and criminals were some of the first people to make combat modifications to their firearms.  AZSA encourages these sorts of historical correct (within modern legal limits of course) modifications to match guns.

As a sidelight the Whitehouse.gov petition to repeal the National Firearms Act of 1934 now has enough signatures to move it forward.

Very cool!  I don't think the Remington 11 has ever gotten the popularity it deserved compared to the Browning Auto-5.  Everyone seems to think it's a lesser version or something.  Remington always built really good stuff, and the Model 11 was no exception.  Enjoy that thing!
