Oak Glen, CA – Summer is a-comin’ in, with a whoop and a holler! At Los Rios Rancho, we’ve got cowboy fun in store for all you buckaroos and buckarettes, whether you’re eight or eighty, or anywhere in between.
Movies on the Green: This year folks can enjoy not two, but three nights of classic Western movie adventure under the stars. On July 11, we’ll show High Noon, on July 18th it’s My Darling Clementine, and on July 25th (that’s the official National Day of the Cowboy, by the way), we’ll wrap up with Rio Bravo. So whether film fans are more partial to Cooper, Fonda, or the Duke, there’s Western entertainment aplenty here on the rancho.
We’ll start at 7 p.m. with Old West trivia quizzes, a bit of trail music, and Old West costume contests for the young ‘uns (of course, grownups are welcome to wear their cowboy duds, too). At sundown we’ll kick the showtime off with a cartoon and a silent Western (sound effects courtesy of our audience), then roll our feature films. The best news is, it’s free!
Old West Weekend and Cowboy Chuckwagon Supper & Show: August 15th and 16th, we’re throwing a bang-up Old West weekend, with a cowboy encampment, Old West gambling tent, vendors, Western authors, cowboy music, plus a whole lot more. Folks can shop for a new hat, check out the latest in shootin’ irons courtesy of EMF Company, or find a passel of other cowboy (and cowgirl) goods while enjoying the wide outdoors and strolling the Old West camp. It’s fun for the whole family, and it’s free.
For those looking to have even more cowboy fun that weekend, there’s our annual Chuckwagon Supper & Show on the 15th. There’s no finer way for folks to spend a warm August evening than sitting under the stars, listening to “Riley’s Regulators” pick and sing good ol’ cowboy tunes by firelight, and eating a whole bellyfull of cowboy vittles served right off the tailgate of a chuckwagon. They’ll whoopee-ti-yi-yo all the way home!
