| My Chosen Alias
(The story behind and how I picked it): |
My character was a Lieutenant in the Union army under General George B. McClelland. He became a double-agent and spy for both sides. That got him rich, but it also got him a death sentence. He escaped to the west, wanted for treason and desertion. Having left his money behind, he made a living moving property back and forth across the Rio Grande. He became so well known that he was given the name "Rio Grande" by those south of the border. Rio never did learn to speak much spanish, so his name when north of the border came to be "Rio Bigg."
With this new identity, Rio found trouble again in the form of a stolen herd of cattle (US brand) that he was delivering to the Mexicans. On the run again, he went to California and became a surveyor in the employ of the US government, mapping the wild lands of Northern California.
