Clubine Ranch

Carl Eugene Cummings, age 84, of Peru, Kansas passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at the Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.  He was born March 18, 1926 in Cedar Vale, Kansas to Walter Nathan and Mary Etta (Hill) Cummings.

He grew up and attended school in the Monett area of rural Chautauqua County.  On July 19, 1957 he married Donna Hopkins in Sedan, Kansas.  They later divorced.

He worked as a welder for many years, working for Neil Hunt and also Economy Manufacturing.  He retired in 1991.  He loved to play bluegrass music, having played it most of his life. He loved horses and also loved designing and building wagons.

He is survived by one daughter, Carolyn and husband Curtis Johnson of Ocala, Florida; one son, John and wife Joanie Cummings of Dewey, Oklahoma;  one brother,  Ernest Cummings of Chautauqua, Kansas, one sister, Leona Call of Copan, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Bud.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, five brothers, two sisters, and one granddaughter.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m.,  Monday, April 19, 2010 at the Peru Cemetery in Peru, Kansas with Heloise Windsor officiating.  Burial will follow at the Peru Cemetery.  Visitation will be Sunday, April 18, 2010 from 12:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.

The family has suggested memorials to the Chautauqua County Animal Shelter, and these remembrances can be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.

Carl made a lot of people happy with his talent of playing and singing. We will miss this man dearly.  Dale and Barbara

He was a very interesting man, I met him when I went to see a dog he had for sale. We bought the dog, but didn't get away from there till we saw all his handmade instruments, and all his dog pictures. Nice fella.
