  Christopher Kingsley was born near Stuttgart, Germany, January 9, 1839, and died at his home in Howard February 6, 1910, age 71 years and 28 days.  He came with his parents to America at the age of 14, lived about one year in New York, coming from there to Illinois where he lived until the war broke out.
  He enlisted in Company K, 15th Regiment Illinois Volunteer Cavalry, where he served his country faithfully for three years being in the following battles:  Pea Ridge, Arkansas; Chaplin Hill, Kentucky; Stone River, Tennesse; Chicamauga, Georgia; Mission Ridge, Tennesee, and Atlanta, Georgia.  he was orderly to Gen. Hooker.  He was honorably discharged at Atlanta, Georgia, September 23, 1864, going from there to New York state for a short time returning to Elgin, Illinois, where he was married to Elizabeth Fraser, September 11, 1866, living in Illinois until 1871, when they came to Kansas, locating on a farm east at Howard.
   He was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal church at Lima, in 1876 where he and his wife held their membership for a short time, afterwards joining the class at Antioch.  Their home was always the preachers home.
  Mr. Kingsley was a charter member of E. M. Stanton Post No. 23 G. A. R.  he also joined Howard lodge No. 134 I. O. O. F. by initiation September 1, 1893.  He filled the chaplain chair two terms.  At other times he filled minor appointive offices.  During his sixteen and one-half years of membership he was continuously in good standing.  He and his wife came to Howard in 1892 uniting with the Methodist class in this place where they remained faithful members of the church militant on earth until called to join the church triumphant in Heaven.  Mrs. Kingsley passing on before in November, 1905.
  He was the last one of his family, his parents, brothers, and sisters having passed before.
  He leaves an adopted daughter Mrs. G. H. Ransom and a host of friends to await the reunion in Heaven.
