Me too, I saw tears all over the place after the last number; a recitation of The Ragged Old Flag in conjunction with Battle Hymn Of The Republic. As always, Joe Lewis did an outstanding job. I even saw some of the young'uns puckering up, a little surprised I was. Barbara, am I correct that the next practice is July 14, at 2:00 Pm Baptist church in Howard, in preparation for a performance at the Howard fair on July 19? Please remind us as you hear. BTW, I don't usually eat before I sing so I made out at the Cattlewomens' markdown sale. I just finished the last burger, really good!

Oh my goodness Diane I might need help with this...America, There's  A Star Spankled Banner Waving Somewhere, I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy, Count Your Blessings, Let There be Peace on Earth, When Johnnie Comes Marching Home Again, America the Beautiful, God Bless America, Battle Hymn of the Republic, The Star Spangled Banner, This Land is Your Land, You're a Grand Old Flag....a few more I just can't recall.
SDM we do sing on July 19th for the Howard Fair, but I have not heard when the practice is to be.
I did not count the singers but feel we had to have over thirty. It was so very hot but the stage area was under a large tree and thankgoodness we had a nice gentle breeze otherwise I don't feel we could have lasted. But on the bright side of that, one of our members is an EMT so we had good help there if needed Smiley Due to the heat I did not attend all of the festivities but it all went so very well.

Barbara, I have long been an advocate for having this celebration a little earlier in the year. It is usually much too hot for this old gal to enjoy, but nobody asked me for my opion. I did take a couple of frozen towels in a little cooler. I wore one around my neck on each set we did, and kept pretty cool. The kids were all having a blast on the water slides, and all looked aptly sunburned and cooled out as they waited for the stick horse races and three wheelers races. Maybe they need to invest in some misters for the adults? I would be willing to bet there were some worn out kids and parents last night!  Cheesy

Well here it is!  We have been asked to perform the National Anthem at the Howard Fair Parade and have a float that would stop in the main intersection and sing a couple of songs.  We are getting a lot of things going on so thought we would have a meeting (not practice) on Monday, July 6 at 7:00 pm at the First Baptist Church in Howard.  This will give us a chance to talk about what we do and do not want to do with this project.  Don't want it to get so involved that we get burnt out.

Barbara, can you post this on the forum - I am also making some phone calls as well

Thanks

Deb
Okay guys and gals lets get the word out on this meeting. Barbara

At our planning session last evening. We went over the songs for the Howard Fair presentation. We will have a practice Sunday July 12th at 2:30pm at the First Baptist Church in Howard.  We will sing in front of th grandstand at the Howard Fair on Sunday July 19th at 6:00pm so we should probably be there at 5:45 to get organized. The songs are awsome and we hope you help us spread the word that we will be there singing both patriotic and gospel songs you all know and love.
Also on the 12th we will firm up the plans for what we will do at the Howard Fair Parade.
Future dates to be thinking about:
Sept. 26th Elk River Festival, we have been asked to sing a couple of songs in the morning at the dedication of Jackson Park Veterans Memeorial. Then we are to sing that evening at the Court House Square. Times will be annouced closer to the date.
Around the fourth weekend in Oct. we will be doing another Singspiration! This will be at the Christian Church in Moline Kansas. Again more information to follow but wanted everyone to be looking forward to what we are going to be doing.

We had a great practise today, we are getting more used to one another and everyone seems happy to be reunited when working on this project. I will let Barbara post the specifics as to the next appearances of the choir, but we have some very interesting dates coming up. Hope to see you there!  Wink

Yes, SDM it was pretty awesome sounding, they do a great job selecting songs (several repeat patriotic and gospel plus a few new added..The Good Old Summer Time, Count your Blessings, The Church in the Wildwood, Onward Christian Soldiers, God Be with You and more) and that Juanita made a very good director!
Several said they would help sing the National Anthem  for the Howard Fair Parade this Sat. July 18th. If you can help, meet at the cornor of the banks in Howard at 10:45am. We will sing at that intersection at 11:00am. Then on Sunday July 19th the choir will sing in front of the grandstand at the Howard Fair Grounds at 6:00pm. Be there by 5:45pm, bring your lawn chair and bottled water. It is sure to be hot hot hot and we will have a little break between singing sessions.
The Severy Methodist Church has asked us to sing some songs at their gathering on Sunday September 6th so be thinking about keeping that date open. All the details are not firm yet, so be looking for a later post.
Yes, we will be singing at the Elk River Festival in Howard on Sept. 26th and more details will be posted later as time gets closer...just keep those dates open if possible.
