Billy Lee MacCready, age 83, of Grenola, Kansas, passed away February 2, 2018 at his home. He was born on February 25, 1934 in Thayer, Kansas, the son of Harry and Gracie Marie (Webb) MacCready.  When Bill was just six weeks old, he lost his mother and 3-year-old brother to a fire.  Bill was then raised by his aunt and uncle, Charlie and Elsie Webb.

Bill worked for the railroad, out in the oil fields, and as a school custodian.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a volunteer fireman for several years.  He enjoyed helping his son with recycling and loved to visit with people and share stories about the railroad.  Bill was also known to be a good cook, a good husband, and a good friend to all that knew him.  On May 5, 1973, he was united in marriage to Loretta Mae Humphries at the Grenola Christian Church in Grenola, Kansas, and they were married for 44 years.

Survivors include his wife, Loretta Mae of the home; son, Donnie MacCready of Grenola, Kansas; daughter, Winona L. "Bunny" Adams of Wicksburg, North Carolina; siblings, A.C. MacCready of Escalon, California, Winnie Todd of Sedan, Kansas, and Robert McCready of El Dorado, Kansas; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.  Bill was preceded in death by his parents and Charlie and Elsie Webb; his daughters, Jeanine Hull and Billie Jo MacCready; his son, Charles McCready; his brothers, Sidney MacCready and Don MacCready; and his sister, Grace Marie Hull. 

Cremation has been requested.  A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at the Grenola Christian Church at 10:30 a.m.  Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.  The family suggests memorials to either the Grenola Fire Department or Kindred Hospice, and those donations may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.  Services have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349.
