Irma Lorene Crisp, a resident of Howard, Kansas for most of her life, passed away January 24, 2018 at the McCrite Retirement Home in Topeka, Kansas.  She was born April 2, 1922 near Fall River, Kansas, the daughter of Harold and Floy (Hadsall) Magers.

Irma attended Howard High School for her first three years and then attended and graduated from Fall River High School in Fall River, Kansas.  On May 1940, she was united in marriage to Dennis Crisp, a rural school teacher.

Irma became the first school secretary in the Howard school system and worked there for 11 years.  In 1966, seven school districts were unified in Elk County, and she became the Clerk/Business Manager of the new U.S.D. #282.  In December 1979, she left this job to spend time with Dennis who had semi-retired from his Zenith TV business.  She was hired in July 1980 by the Rose Hill School District in Butler County as Clerk/Business Manager.  In July 1985, she retired from that district, and in March 1986, she was appointed to fill an unexpired term as County Clerk in Elk County.

Irma and Dennis always lived in Howard except for when they were snowbirding.  They had many lifelong friends in the Elk County area whom they dearly loved.  They spent 20 winters in Yuma, Arizona in an RV park, participating in jam sessions three times a week.  Dennis played the fiddle, guitar, and banjo, and Irma sometimes played the snare drum or slide guitar.  Usually, however, she just listened to the good music.  She and Dennis enjoyed the dances, the morning coffees, and various park activities with the many friends they made there.  Volunteering in the park, Irma was the "go-to" person to make banners, invitations, directories, etc. on her computer.  She was also famous for her delicious apple pies.  She enjoyed quilitng and made beautiful quilts for her family members.

Irma is survived by one son, Jim Crisp and wife, Denise of Chula Vista, California; one daughter, Suzy Springer of Topeka, Kansas; grandchildren, Ashleigh Crisp of Chula Vista, California, Valerie Oliver of Marina del Ray, California, Stacey Bailey of Topeka, Kansas, and Mike Springer of Collinsville, Illinois; 7 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dennis Crisp in 2009; her son-in-law, Jeff Springer in 2013, and her grandson, Scott in 2014.
