MAGEE, Charles Wait "Charlie" - b. December 29, 1929 - d. January 12, 2018

Charles Wait MaGee, age 88, of Independence, Kansas, went to meet his Lord and Savior on January 12, 2018 at his home.  He was born on December 29, 1929 in Independence, Kansas at the home of his parents, Dayton and Bessie (Hudiburg) MaGee.

In 1950, Charlie was united in marriage with Neva Bayes.  To this union were born four children.  They later divorced.  Charlie and Marie (McLean) Cookson were united in marriage on August 12, 1972.  Joining the family were her five children.  Charlie took his job as dad and step-dad very seriously.

Charlie made a 32-year career of working at the United States Post Office in Wichita, Kansas and Independence, Kansas, working his way to window clerk.  He loved meeting people and loved the interaction that his job provided.  He also loved growing things in his garden, maintaining a garden big enough to feed five families, and he always shared with others.  He spent as much time outside as he could.  He planted and worked a garden through last year's season until his health made him unable to do so anymore.

Charlie has always been active in church ministry and mentored many people in God's Word.  He loved to study the Bible and was very dedicated to sharing the love of Jesus with others. 

Charlie is survived by his wife, Marie, of the home; his children, Kenneth MaGee (Jane) of Omaha, Nebraska, Roselyn "Rosie" Sweaney (Dale) of Sedan, Kansas, Kayla Crossland (Tim) of Paola, Kansas, and Bill MaGee of Spring Texas; his stepchildren, Carolyn (Cookson) Wigley (Terry) of Derby, Kansas, Cheryl Cookson of Independence, Kansas, and Diane (Cookson) Wigley (Hal) of Derby, Kansas.  He was preceded in death by his parents and two stepchidren, Ronnie Cookson and Janet (Cookson) Parker.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Allen Family Family Services in Independence,m Kansas from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Services will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene, 3167 S. 10th Street, Independence, Kansas.  Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas.  The family has suggested memorials to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and may be left in care of the Allen Family Funeral Services, 3848 W. Main, Independence, Kansas which is in charge of funeral arrangements.
