Marvis Maree Gaddie, 70, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away December 16, 2017 at William Newton Hospital in Winfield, Kansas.  Born September 21, 1947 in Blackwell, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Marvin and Wilma (Elledge) Purdy.

Marvis was raised and received her education in the Oxford, Kansas area where she was active in the Valley View 4-H and played saxophone in the high school band.  She graduated from Oxford High School in 1965.  She was united in marriage to James M. Gaddie on June 18, 1965 at the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell, Oklahoma.  They made their first home in Winfield, Kansas.  In 1970, they moved to Concordia, Kansas and Marvis worked at the County Extension Office until 1974 when the family moved to Howard, Kansas.  While in Howard, she worked as a secretary at the high school until becoming the Elk County Clerk.  She was elected to three terms as County Clerk, retiring in 1999 when she and Jim returned to Winfield..  After returning to Winfield, Marvis worked for a short time at the Cowley County Clerk's office before going to work at Cowley County Community College in Arkansas City, Kansas.  While working at Cowley, she began taking classes and earned her Associates Degree.  She then completed her Bachelor Degree at Friends University in Wichita, Kansas.  She was currently working part-time for Jarrett and Norton CPA's.

Marvis was a very active member of Grace United Methodist Church where she served in many positions including Chairperson of the Church Council.  She was an active member of the PEO, Relay For Life, and Winfield Rotary Club.  She was currently serving as secretary of the Rotary Club as well as being a Paul Harris Fellow.  She enjoyed sewing, was a great cook, and was known for baking cinnamon rolls.  She loved attending her grandsons' activities.

Survivors include her husband, Jim Gaddie of Winfield, Kansas; her children, Jana Marstall and husband, P.J. of Emporia, Kansas and Mike Gaddie of Wichita, Kansas; her brother, Ray Purdy and wife, Dena of Garden City, Kansas; and her five grandsons, Brady and Braxton Marstall of Emporia, Kansas and Trent, Joel, and Zeke Gaddie of Wichita, Kansas.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday morning, December 20, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, 320 College Street, Winfield, Kansas.  Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service, 4001 E. 9th Avenue, Winfield, Kansas on Tuesday evening, December 19, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  The family will greet visitors that evening.
