Humpy

Well Wake-up that is a pretty song but it is a Viet Nam war protest song by and in front of a bunch of hippy, dope smoking, FM type, worthless scum, that insult every military vet on this forum that sacrificed in Nam Or any other conflict we have engaged in .
Don't get me wrong, I am a conservative constitutionalist, 69 year old redneck that wants freedom for all, it is just that this song bites my American military loving a$$.
  God bless ya.

Good post there Wakeup.  It's funny that the hippies were right and they didn't even know it and still don't.  Then and now they didn't stand for liberty and neither does the modern military leadership - they're all into the New World Order.

The last American army to defend the U S Constitution was the army of the Confederate States of America.  And we know what Republicans and modern Democrats think of monuments to Rpbert E. Lee.

Wake-up!

Yeeee-hawwwww, responses!! Look what music does that a narrative apparently will not! LOLOL

I have to laugh at the generalizations both you guys have made [I'm assuming you are both guys :<))]. Humpy, I'm pretty sure Darin's song is about all war, not just the Viet Nam Conflict. Or should I call it a Police Action? Actually the song's focus is an appeal to the Soviet block. Viet Nam vets need to get the chip of our shoulders that we are somebody's scapegoat (other than all of us being victims of the US government). That song doesn't insult me, and I have Vietnam service time on my DD-214 too. I appreciate the song's message. That is the biggest message (you) constitutional conservatives need to hear from the libertarians. War Is Wrong. Self defense is not. Put a little iodine on that a$$ bite and sit gingerly for a few days. And stand by Humpy, I'll post a few more songs. Keep that iodine handy.

My guess, Red, is that you've spent a lot more time listening to Charlie Daniels and Bocephus than to the Allman Brothers or Skynyrd. I've had hair down to my a$$ half my life and most those things Humpy accuses hippies of being I've done (not sure what a FM type is). I'd say from experience they are a more complex lot than either of you generalize. In the day, Peace-Love-Dove prevailed, no doubt, except among the political activists to whom it was just a slogan for power. No doubt, many of my friends from the late days of communes are still on the socialist bandwagon with their hands always out for more, always under the illusion that things are free. But a surprising number viewed a commune as the only essential element of government that was needed. And each commune would govern themselves independently. I know more than a few that have moved into freedom movements because they didn't like being bossed around. And from what I see around here, a few of those types found this part of the world years ago, looking for a place to be left alone. Some probably evolved into constitutional conservatives.

I'm jabbering, so I'll quit typing. But it would be fun having Peace-Love-Dove come around again.

You and I both know it was, "Peace, Love, Dope, not dove.

Redclutz wouldn't know a "hippie" if one kicked him in the ass, let alone know what they believed or thought about. Just another dimwit that believed everything he saw on TV.

The majority of the generation had no quarrel with the military, just didn't want to go die for some oil company pumping oil out of the gulf of Tonkin. They loved their country and still do, and would defend it to the end.

Humpy

Wake-up I appreciate your reply. I am one of those that was a hippy clipper in the 60s and early 70s. we probably are the only ones that remember that. ( probably not something to be proud of today)
I don't abide well with those that protest our military operations or personnel  today or yesterday, right or wrong  . Then again I will defend your right to disagree with me.
I love discussions on these things, I would like to have coffee some day with you.

By the by, we poor constitutional conservatives that came here to get away (1988), didn't expect to come to a county so poorly run, with the highest mill rate in the state. Liberals running as republicans is such a farce, and people eat it up. Ya need to look at their past folks not just their last names.  We don't have one conservative (republican)  on our county commission today. We have been played.

Still God bless ya.

Wake-up!

The County is just following an ages old model. The King always takes from the worker to help the poor. The poor always make sure the King stays in power (you now, get things for free). The system never changes from a vote. Elections are the big play. And yep, we've all been played. If you want to make changes, you need to be Robin Hood.

Humpy, pick a time and place. Let me know through the Personal Message.

A lot of people like him, don't know why, can't carry a tune in a bucket. Hoyt Axton was a far better song writer and singer that never got the accolades he deserved. " Joy to the World", " The Pusher", " Never been to Spain" and on and on. Wrote Blake Shelton's first hit, " Ol Red".

Wake-up!

Dylan is at the top of my list as a song writer. Better than Lennon & McCartney as far as influencing/defining a genre of music. I might even put Elton John and Bernie Taupin above those Beatle guys. Dylan's voice, at its best, was marginal. I last saw him on tour with Paul Simon in '99. His voice was so bad he talked most of the lyrics.

Hoyt was a great songwriter and singer. Not as prolific as Dylan. Not as well known. I first heard of him when Steppenwolf recorded Pusherman. Hoyt certainly made Three Dog Night wealthy. I had an album of his titled Life Machine. Not a bad song on it. He had Ronstadt and Renee Armand (sp?) doing background vocals. That album has the best version of Geronimo's Cadillac ever recorded, IMO. I haven't been able to find a digital version of the album yet!
