Elsie Marie Shinkle, age 88, of Augusta, Kansas, passed away April 29, 2017 at home surrounded by her family.  She was born in Severy, Kansas on August 6, 1928 to Pearl May (Mead) and James Charles Cotton.

Elsie graduated from Fall River High School in Fall River, Kansas.  On May 18, 1946, she married Donald Rex Shinkle.  She retired as a Postmaster at the Fall River Post Office and also had been Fall River Treasurer, City Clerk, Council member, and School Board member.  She was a member of the Democratic Committee for Women, a board member of the Greenwood County Health Board, and served on the Fall River Housing Board.  Elsie enjoyed traveling and made her home in the winters at Avenger, Texas.

Elsie is survived by daughters, Linda McCune and husband, Dave of Augusta, Lucinda Arnold and husband, Lyle of Neodesha, Kansas, and Mary Williams and husband, Chase of Augusta, Kansas; her daughter-in-law, Kitty Shinkle; her grandchildren, Andrew Shinkle (Lori), David Eugene McCune, Jr., Brian Hart, Dereck Arnold, Justin Arnold, Kris Davidson (Randy) and Greg Williams (Genae); and ten great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rex; two sons, Don Shinkle and Danny Shinkle; brothers, James "Jim" Cotton and William Franklin "Bill" Cotton; her sister, Lola Mae Landis; and a grandson, John McCune.

Funeral services were held on May 5, 2017 at Headley Funeral Chapel in Augusta, Kansas.  Burial followed at Mt. Zion Cemetery near Fall River, Kansas.  Headley Funeral Chapel of Augusta was in charge of arrangements.
