Buddyboy

The Reynolds here are my great grandparents. They were the parents of Minnie Gertrude Reynolds Zollars who married Matthew Matthias Zollars of Longton. I am the son of their youngest son, Elmore Burgess.

Hello, Scotty (Buddyboy)!  I am so pleased to see your posting, and hear from someone that has family interred in the cemetery transcriptions posted.  Would you care to post some remembrances/favorite stories about your great-grandparents on the genealogy board?  It is always interesting to hear about the folks that were here before us.  I believe that if all of those who have passed on before, would have written down their life's history, stories, etc.....that would have been super-great!

Marcia Moore

I saw in the Busby Cemetery transcriptions where a Berniece McCollock was listed.  Her correct name was Bernice MCCOLLOCH.  She was the daughter of George Barker & Drusia (Felton) McColloch.  Drusia was the last Cave Springs postmaster, serving from 03/04/1899 until the post office was discontinued on March 31, 1903.  In 1895, Drusia's husband, George, became the star route carrier, bringing the mail to Cave Springs from Severy every day until the Cave Springs Post Office closed.  I see the daughter, Bernice, died on her fourth birthday.  Wonder what happened to her?

LShortt

Very interesting.  Just scanning the listings, it looks like the farthest back date is about 1872.  Just amazing.

Thanks, Marcia, for calling that to my attention.  I went back and made the necessary notation.

Sunflower, it's unusual to even be able to read a stone that reads sometime in the 1870's.  Most of them are so weather worn, that a person has to use a "rubbing" technique to be able to read them (if they're still standing that is, and not vandalized)

Marcia Moore

When I was reading worn stones at the cemeteries, I used aluminum foil.  I placed it on the stone, then rubbed, to get the indentations to appear on the foil.  I found that the lighter weight the aluminum foil was, the better.

While we're fresh on the Busby cemetery, I'll join in and mention that I have connections to the Tice's buried there.  William and Philip B. were brothers of my g-grandmother Julia Tice Hainlin.  I'll dig into my files and add more information later about the Tice family.  Julia is buried in the Longton cemetery (no stone) next to her husband Frederick Hainlin.

genealogynut

Oh, goody!  I'm full of anticipation!

Wilma

My husband's great grandparents are buried there, but I can't remember their names.  His grandfather's name was Jesse Tice, married Kittie Bucher and was divorced when 5th child was a baby.  Don't know much abaout the Tice's.
