No volunteers? Wouldn't the American Legion have handled that? That would be a disappointment. Did they have a conflict? No fire Company Color Guard? Or perhaps yours is too small? I don't know how many members your fire company has.
Was the adult candy snatcher a mentally challenged adult? They might not understand. I hope the rest was nice .You could use some thing special about now.  Kiss  I'm sending you a big hug,not that it's special, but I do care.

thank you for the hug, Dianne.  I can always use those and each one is very special.  I visited the courthouse grounds a bit ago and I was able to talk to some people that had answers.  It seems that the American Legion members that usually make up the Color Guard are all up in ages and they didn't feel they could walk that far and they couldn't get any of the younger members to volunteer.  I did notice that a small boy scout troup was in the parade.  Perhaps they are someone to keep in mind for the next parade.  They were young enough that they wouldn't be able to carry the giant flags that the Legion uses, but they could certainly carry the smaller ones and it would give them some good experience.  It's not the "size" of the flag that counts anyhow.  Just a thought and I will bring this up to some of those in charge.  I did enjoy the parade and there is a good turn out of booths on the courthouse lawn.  There were different games going on, but I was by myself and that just puts a damper on my enthusiasm.  Been alone for too many years.  Did visit with some people I don't get to see very often anymore.  Myrna, if you see this, was nice to visit with you if only for a minute.

This was my first Elk River Festival but I sure did enjoy it.  It looked like a great turn out and everyone said there were more vendors than ever.  I sure do miss the marching bands.  I guess that is another thing that has gone by the wayside.  People are so friendly here and I for a new comer that really counts.  Teresa and Kjell looked great in their shooters dress. Had a good visit with Jo and Judy.  Sure sorry I missed seeing Myrna and Frank.

I didn't realize there was no color guard in the parade, as I was towards the end. That is sad that no one wanted to step up and volunteer.

I saw Teresa as I was driving through the parade and she did, indeed, look beautiful!

I did enjoy myself today. Got to the court house square about 11 and stayed till after 2.
I walked around and looked at booths.........sort of. then ran into Mavis Helms and she talked me into going up to see the bank robbery and it was loud and fun to watch! . She said it was a nice turn out. walked back and stopped at a little museum next to the housing office. ..I didn't realize it was there and enjoyed walking around looking at the items.
Then back to the square and enjoyed walking around, visiting, looking and just loved being outside, outside my territory and it didn't matter I did most of it alone. That I am use to.........ran into Lisa, Jo, Roma and I had a nice visit. saw a lot of people having a good gab fest and then Teresa and Kjell walked up and I guess the only time we had met was at her daddy's service. Altho I told her I thought we had met before, but it is her mother I met here in Longton a long time ago.......LOL Had to do that Jo, think that BonnieB introduced us. I feel like I have known Teresa for years...LOL between forum and facebook getting there.
I did take my cane and sat and watched people and animal contest and just plain had a good day.
Think I would have stayed longer, but had to get home to take care of my kids and didn't want to over do it. There will be another time...God willing.

I had a fantastic Day.  First let me say how proud I am of my beautiful daughter and my handsome son-in-law.
Wheeeeeeeeeee  they knocked your socks off --- for sure.  I received a LOT of compliments on what a good looking couple they are.
I thought the festival was one of the best we have had.

So glad to visit with Roma, Judy and Flo -- and happy that Flo was a recipient for one of the gift baskets.
I saw lots of people that I hadn't seen for ages.

had a wonderful evening.  After a quick supper at Toot's, Marvin and I headed to the courthouse lawn because wanted to hear the community choir sing.  They were great.  Then the drawing - I thought it would be a break and I headed to the restroom and when I got back Marvin and Jo both said they had called my name and I thought they were just teasing.  They weren't and I was really surprised.  It was the Patriot Basket.  Wonderful.  Then it was time for the Bender's.  Now that's my kind of music.  We did have to leave early because it got so chilly.  While folding our bag chairs, my hands being cold and rings loose, I lost one.  too dark to look for it so will go down in the morning and hopefully find it.  If not, that's how it goes, I guess.  Had a wonderful time, visited with lots of wonderful people, won a drawing and listened to wonderful music.

Well, I didn't see Roma Jean, Jo, Teresa or Kjell. I did see Judy and introduced myself to Lisa Harrington and her husband. Saw Rosie Gray, Waldo's mother. She told me that she and a daughter are traveling to Waldo's on Monday. Prayers for a safe trip for them. I did see lots and lots of people. Saw Rudy Taylor who would not take a picture of me when I was doing one of my pretty poses. Darn Rudy, anyway. It was good to be up there even if I did have to come home and take a nap.

If I could have won one of the basket's that would have been the one I would have wanted. Glad you got it, Flo.

Oh, I did see Flo long enough to wave at her.
