The Coffee Shop / Purple Martins
April 03, 2014, 06:27:56 AM
No martins yet.   Saw two flying but didn't stop.   Some the last several years always show up too early in March.   I normally have more than 100.    The last couple years with the heat has been rough on mine.  Have 8 houses.   Even the sparrows and starlings seem to be less.

I used to enjoy this part of the forum but it has entered into the twilight zone.  I just check on who is commenting and decide to move on to the death notices.

Lets talk about important things like KU basketball.  Some people may have thought a loss was coming.  Glad they didn't give up.

The Coffee Shop / Buffalow Girls
October 08, 2010, 05:47:37 PM
Do you remember the Buffalow girls from Severy?  Mary and Myrna Buffalow.  They sang several songs at the Cox building last night.  No tomatoes were thrown at them.

The Coffee Shop / Fire Blight on apple trees
May 21, 2010, 08:50:11 AM
Do any of you have what they call fire blight on your apples trees?   The ends of the branches turn brown and the end leaves sort of curl back toward the tree.   What do you do?   You can spray them with some stuff when they are in bloom.   Also cut the infected area off several inches back and then stick your clippers in a bleach solution between clips.  Wet spring makes it worse.  Ideas.  It seems like a losing battle.

The Coffee Shop / Bad gravel
September 15, 2009, 10:12:59 PM
The gravel that has recently been put on road 8 north of Angus and road 10 north of the county line in my opinion is the worst ever.  The big rocks are very sharp and you have to drive very slow on them.  Tonight I was going 10 mpn and that was too fast.  I don't pay taxes to Elk county but surely others  that do have the same feelings about this matter.  I have chained my route several times to stay off of it.  It must have been a cheap price.

The Coffee Shop / Truck off 99 highway
August 24, 2009, 09:56:05 PM
This is at least the 3rd truck that has wrecked when running off the shoulderless highway just south of Howard.    Deep ditches and no shoulder is an invitation to problems.

The Coffee Shop / Fruit trees

Several of my apple trees had no blooms, some others have now.  Four of my standard yellow delecious had no blooms.  A standard red delicious that always bears a big crop have no apples.   A couple dwarf yellow delicious tree have blooms now.  None of my peaches, pears, plums or apricots are fruitless.    What is the report of your trees?
