Title: PURKEYPILE, Emma Louise (Vanderbilt) - b. November 8, 1924 - d. April 8, 2020

Emma Louise Purkeypile passed away on April 8, 2020 at the Eureka Nursing Center in Eureka, Kansas at the age of 95.  She was born November 8, 1924 near Severy, Kansas, the daughter of William Guy and Rhoda (Morris) Vanderbilt.

Emma was raised in the Piedmont, Kansas area and attended local schools.  When she was 14, her father passed away, and the family then moved to Eureka.  On May 31, 1941, Emma married Doyle Purkeypile in Howard, Kansas. They made their home in Eureka, and five children were born to this union.

Emma ran the office of Purkeypile Construction for many years.  She was a member of the Eureka Seventh-Day-Adventist Church.

Emma is survived by her children, Ellen Martin of Jasper, Arkansas, Marsha Lawinky of Abilene, Kansas, Allan Purkeypile of Eureka, Kansas and Dean Purkeypile of Linwood, Kansas; ten grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Doyle on May 7, 2000; her son, Don Veldon Purkeypile; and her siblings, Edwin Guy Vanderbilt, Dr. William Henry Vanderbilt, Alice Viola Burbach, Carrie Nix, and Florence M. Vanderbit.

Immediate burial was held at the Greenwood Cemetery in Eureka, Kansas.  A public memorial service will be held at a later date.  Condolences may be left for the family online at www.koupfunerals.com.  Koup Family Funeral Home, 121 N. Oak, Eureka, Kasns 67045 is in charge of arrangements.
