Marilyn Edna Sauder, age 81, died August 21, 2017 at the Eureka Nursing Center in Eureka, Kansas.  She was born November 20, 1935 in rural Virgil, Kansas, the daughter of William R. and Mabel E. (Young) Phillips.

On February 25,  1952, Marilyn was united in marriage to Dale Dean Sauder in Nevada, Missouri.  They were married for 65 years.  Dale and Marilyn met as young people when Dale drove the school bus and Marilyn was a passenger.  They also competed in spelling bees in Eureka, Kansas.  Two children, Sheila and Ron, were born to this union.

During her working years, Marilyn worked in the business office at the Wichita Clinic and was an insurance supervisor at St. Joseph Hospital in Wichita, Kansas where she retired in 1996.  She and Dale then moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas to enjoy their retirement.  She then went to work as an administrative assistant for the Bentonville/Bella Vista Boand of Realtors.  Her boss at the Board of Realtors stated she did the work of a CFO and was admired greatly.  Marilyn and Dale loved to travel.  They visited 48 states, excluding Maine and North Dakota.  They also traveled to Mexico and Europe and took a 29-day bus trip to Alaska.  She had magnets from all over the world.

Marilyn loved her family more than anything.  She loved to spoil every one of them and kept up on technology to stay in touch.  She could text and used Facebook avidly, commenting on every post.  Despite that, Marilyn still sent hand-written letters to Taylor so he could have mail to open.  She was a wonderful cook, and the family really loved her ham salad.  Marilyn and Dale returned to Eureka, Kansas to be close to Sheila and her family.  Marilyn was a member of the local caregiver support group and the Women's Community Benefit Club.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Dale of Eureka, Kansas; her daughter, Sheila and husband, Jerry Houchin of Severy, Kansas; her son, Ron and wife, June of Dallas, Texas; her grandchildren, Laurie and husband, Rob of Severy, Kansas, Adam and wife, Crystal of Severy, Kansas, and Ben and wife, Heather of Howard, Kansas; her sisters, Lola Thirton and husband of Severy, Kansas, Frances Hays of Osawatomie, Kansas; her brother, Rob Phillips and wife, Beverly of Lawrence, Kansas; great-grandchildren, Taylor and wife, Jen of DeKalb, Illinois, Tylyn, Tanner, Evan, Weston, and Dawson of Severy, Kansas, and Cora of Howard, Kansas.  She also has four foster great-grandchildren, Braden, Bryson, Kaylee and Micah of Severy, Kansas.  They all loved her and will miss her dearly.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Mabel and William; her sister, Freda Gibson; her brothers-in-law, Neil Sauder and Floyd Wayne Gibson; her sister-in-law, Sherry Sauder; and her grandson, Jeremy Houchin.

Services were held on August 265, 2017 at the Severy Church of the Nazarene in Severy, Kansas with burial in South Lawn Cemetery in Severy.  Countryside Funeral Home of Howard, Kansas was in charge of arrangements.
