It always amazes me how many people run out of town and buy books to read when we have many of the newest and most popular books right here in good ol' Howard at your local public library.

Don't believe me? You can now search the Howard Library card catalog from the comfort of your own home!

In fact, you can search over a dozen area libraries all from one site, and if we don't have what you're looking for, you can autoMAGICALLY have it transferred to your Howard City Library for local pickup. Transfers from the Independence library just take a couple of days. There is no charge for this service.

You can search the Howard City Library catalog from our website here:

http://howardlibrary.org

From there, you can jump to the "South East Kansas" Library system website and search the libraries of over a dozen libraries in the area.

In order to have a book transferred to Howard, you'll need a username and password for the "SEK-N-Find" system. Just stop in at the Library during normal business hours and Judy can create a user account for you. A user account will allow you to transfer books, place a hold on an item, renew items you've checked out, see when your books are due. You can even suggest book purchases...

Would the libary take a donation of childrens books. We bought a lot of books when our daughter was growing up and still have them, they are all in great shape with no torn or dirty pages?
Thank you

OMG!  OMG!  OMG!  I am so amazed at what is happening in a little town.  Thank you, Mr. Hall, for your amazing magical touch with the library.  I will use this link.  Yes, I will.

Is there a reason no one has answered my question about the donation of books?

Just as an aside, forum member Happy Librarian [at the Moline Library] mentioned in her post #23 on Dec 23, 2008, that she would be glad to take used books.

Hey Jane,

Sorry - I missed your question.

We're not currently accepting book donations as we're in the process of placing the remaining uncataloged books to the new card catalog system and weeding out some worn out items . We don't really have a good place to store the donations and Judy's a little backed up trying to complete the processing of our existing collection.

Thanks for your support of the local library.
