John Wilmer Evans, age 82, a resident of Howard, Kansas, passed away Sunday, August 30, 2009 at the Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, Kansas John was born on August 30, 1927 in Reading, Kansas, the son of Lewellyn T. and Johanna (Moore) Evans.
John was a self-employed logger. He enjoyed his work and liked to go fishing when he could, and since hewas young, he enjoyed gardening. On July 7, 1952, he married Peggy J. VanNote in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. They raised 5 chldren and were married for 57 years until his deth.
John is survived by his wife, Peggy J. Evans of their home in Howard, Kansas; five sons, David Evans and his wife Kathy of Howard, Kansas, Lloyd Evans and his wife Cynthia of Howard, Kansas, John Wesley Evans and his wife Kathy of Joplin, Missouri, Gary Evans and his wife Audrey of Wichita, Kansas, and Kevin Evans and his wife Lannie of Branson, Missouri; a sister, Alice Summerfield of Muskogee, Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Barbara Pachin and Kathryn Curlee.
Cremation has been requested. The family will have an informal memorial service at the Cox Building (East Room) in Howard, Kansas on Saturday, September 5, 2009 receiving friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association and may be left with the Zimmerman Funeral Home.
