I am not trying to ruffle any feathers, but just offering a suggestion based on my experiences.

I often see one of the biggest complaints about the goings on in Elk County is lack of communication or I didn't know. I love the internet because it allows me to find information that would have taken me much longer to find in pre internet days.

You all should consider having your county and city governments post all their info., meeting minutes, notifications etc. on the web.
My suggestion is that they pay Kjell and Teresa, who already do much of that for free, to produce a professional, all iinclusive, transparent web presence. Large cities and the US government are mandated to do this by law. Just a suggestion. I know I appreciate it where I live.

Hey thanks for the suggestion, will bring it to our next Communication meeting. Our committee has worked closedy with Rudy Taylor of the Prairie News. His paper is doing an awesome job of taking care of all this information. We do need our local paper and want it to grow and be a profitable business. I think we have improved greatly on getting the word out to people. They have the printed paper, the post here on the Forum, Church bulletins, public marques, notices of events on the bottom of city bills and other monthly bills,  posters in windows, and the good old fashion word of mouth seems to work well. But we will keep working and will gain more informed people each day, thanks to people who like you offer suggestions on what works and what doesn't. Thanks, Barbara

How about how to bring Elk County news and annoucements to people OUTSIDE of the county?  This forum is nice, but too much other "stuff" that may keep people from following closely.  I know we have websites, but I don't see that they are updated or even current at all.  Let alone to actually DRAW people to the county for events.

Thank you for the input David.. But Kjell and I insist on giving this website and keeping the access of what ever is here  free to anyone who wants to use it. with no one paying anyone for anything. *us included*  Smiley  Also, in all honesty... Neither Kjell or I have time to do anything more than what we do now in this website. We have more on our plate in a day to do than 5 people can handle.  Smiley  ( example.. I have been working on finding time  changing the layout and information ..pictures ..graphics on the front page. As you can tell.. it is still on the "to do " list.  We will always continue to update and keep the engine running smoothly internally .. but to "have to" take on adding local information etc is something that time will not allow right now. Thank you very much again though for the suggestion and  the kind words.

Teresa, I knew you would say that and I used you an Kjell as an example of a website that provides a community service at their own expense because I think they often are over looked or even worse don't exist.  With out going into a long winded explanation of what I meant I will say that there is a lot of governmental information and services that can be cheaply put on the web increasing government transparency, improving access to information, and saving taxpayer money. Some are government sites, some are private forums like here, some are watchdog sites. My main complaint is government should be providing that transparency. Thanks to the government agencies that do provide it, and even more thanks to those private entities that do it at their own cost as a service to their fellow citizens. I appreciate it all.
