The Elk Konnected name took several long meetings to be created.  The steering committee had a lot of discussion in regards to the matter.  We knew we couldn't be just Elk County _____ because our community spread beyond our county boundaries, especially with Severy.  For this same reason, we didn't feel the word "county" should be in the name, plus that might implicate that it was a governmental group.  Terry Woodbury, with Ks Communities, gave us examples of what other communities had done - like Hodgeman First, Vision Chanute, Team Wallace County, Shine on Sherman, etc.  Terry, in his discussion, speaks alot about connecting and finally that became the word - except spelled with a "K" to be our abbreviation on license plates - EK.

Steve Fry of Elk Falls Pottery graciously designed the logo.  The concept behind it is that the square represents the public square and the four sectors - Business, Education, Govt, Health & Human Services that are trying to connect.  The lines going outside the square represent reaching from one side of the county to the other and beyond.

Our Vision - Strong Families, Solid Education, Superior Lifestyle - Stay with us as we grow - was conceived at the Vision retreat in January 2008.

That's very interesting, and a good way to represent the goals without imposing a physical barrier (such as a county line, etc.k).  You all are doing a wonderful job of working toward positive results for improving life in our hometown area of SE Kansas!  Thanks!

Liz, Thanks for telling the meaning behind the logo. Lots of people have been asking and seeing it written out is so much better for people like myself who often "mishear words", Thanks again, hope you send a write up to Rudy for the Prairie Star.
