Here are some extractions from the Independence Daily Reporter, dated Tuesday, May 26, 1959.  The Howard news was written by Mrs. Fritz Weigand.

A pizza luncheon was held in the home of Miss Paula Zoe Moore Tuesday evening.  Attending the party were Miss Weike (home economics teacher), Miss Kovar (science teacher), Miss Wall (music teacher) and the cheer leaders, Misses Carolyn Houser, Joella Parsons, Virginia Criger, and Paula Zoe Moore.  A line party to the theatre followed the luncheon.

Friends and relatives were saddened by the passing of their friend and neighbor, Walter Riggs who died at his home early Wednesday morning.

Vacationing are Mr. and Mrs. Bobbie VanBuskirk and little son, Tommie, and Mrs. VanBuskirk's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Signer, of rural Howard who left last Saturday for a two week's travel in Mississippi, Virginia, and Washington D.C.

Mrs. Melvin Friend was guest of honor at a post-nuptial miscellaneous bridal shower Friday evening, given by Mesdames Dr. Pike, Loren Lister, Carl Lauffer, Lorraine Fear, Alex Rader, Rex Armstrong, and Bud Barber at the Baptist annex.

Mrs. Friend, who began her marriage her marriage on Mother's Day, was Phyllis Lanning, graduated from Howard High School last Thursday evening.
