Fireworks at Howard City Lake
For the last 10 years, sponsors, helpers and the volunteers from the Howard Fire Department have made it possible for the citizens to enjoy the magic of fireworks.

Kjell did this one. I helped only a little bit on the editing and the making of the final result.
But 9 hours later.. he had it done..
Yep.. 9 hours!
((It was a long time))
The reason??
I did all the filming by myself this time.. and if I had a bit more experience under my belt in that area..and been a teeny bit better ...( I am in learn mode
) it would have only probably taken him 5-6.. But like he said.. I learned a whole lot this time.. so that is worth a lot. And he taught me a whole lot when he was putting all of this together, so it was not in vain.
Usually I am on the still camera and he does all the filming... and when I make a video I get to use HIS filming.. which is professional level...
Poor Kjell...
But it was fun to film and now I know next time what to do to make it better and easier. ...after we get the miles of tape home.. LOL
I am so glad you like it.
I think it turned out awesome

I loved the fireworks video! And it was a treat to see your firefighters. Our fire company would never be allowed to do something like that. We just stand by while the professional fire works company shoots 'em off. It was nice to see the picnic pavilion too....many fond memories. I could hear some zizzing the background. Were they your Kansas Cicadas? Ours will be starting up soon, but have a slightly different sound. And the Japanese Beetles are here big time! I don't think you have them. But you have chiggers (awful little buggers) and we don't around here. But we have West Nile and Lyme Disease, so I guess we all have something.

Those were locust, weren't they?
Grandma always called them "wee-ier" bugs because of the noise they made.

Teresa, it took me over 45 minutes to download this video and it was well worth the wait. Fantastic job to you and the volunteers who do this each year. Hopefully next year I'll get to see this display in person. Had to chuckle while it was doing it's stop/start thing. They were loading into the back of the pick-up and one guy was just starting to get in and he had one toe on the trailer tongue and the other leg supended in mid-air for like 3 minutes. Good balancing job he did.

For Dandymomm, to me a "locust" is a big grasshopper, the kind that loves to dribble "tobacco juice" on you. But some people here call cicadas locusts too. I suspect we're talking about the same bug.

The locust and the cicada are different critters, to wit:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cicada
although I suspect that when they are eating your cash crop they seem pretty much alike.

Our Cicadas are very polite and, although they do suck stem juices, they don't do enough damage to notice. A few years ago we had a tidal wave of 17 year Cicadas, smaller with red eyes. The tree trunks were covered with their shed shells. Swarms of Locusts can be very damaging.( where are the sea gulls when you need them?) On one of my visits to Howard many years ago there had been a serious drought and also a locust outbreak. One of my jobs was to go out to the stock tank and skim out all the Locusts, so the animals could get a drink without having to sieve Locusts through their teeth! Thanks for the Wikipedia!!!
