Howard Courant Citizen
October 26, 1944

Mrs. Iola Hayes, age 66, wife of Clarence J. Hayes, died at 2:45 Monday afternoon at her home in Independence where she had been seriously ill for several months.   She had been in failing health since July 1942.  Mr and Mrs. Hayes moved to Independence from Howard two years ago.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 at the Potts chapel, with Rev. R.O. Penick of the First Methodist church officiating.  The body was brought to Howard and short services were held at the graveside at 3:30 p.m.

Besides her husband, she leaves three sons, Marion Hayes, of Kansas City, Clare Hayes of Holyoke, Colorado, and Virgil Hayes of Coffeyville, and three brothers and two sisters.

The many friends in the community extend deepest sympathy to the bereaved family.
