.32 H&R Mag to .32S&W?
« on: April 03, 2006, 10:00:59 AM »
Does anyone know if you can cut down .32mag cases and make .32 S&S short cases?  I looked at the outside case dementions in my Lee reloading manual and it showes the 32 short to be .001 wider in diameter.  Is that enough to make a differance?  I'll be using them in a pocket pistol.

I think you should sacrifice a case to find out.  Brass is relatively maleable and chambers are usually left with a bit of free space.  .001 in. is not much.

As far as I know, the .32 H&R Mag is an elongated .32 S&W Long which is an elongated .32 S&W (Short). Therefore, I see no problem with doing it. BTW, what pocket pistol is it?

Slim is right, those dimensions are within tolerances.  One thing, the heavier 32 mag cases might be a bit thick down that far.  Make one, seat the bullet and see if the mouth dimensions are within tolerances.  I think Winchester still makes 32 S&W so for the work involved I'd just buy them.
