Hunting with Cas/non Cas revolvers/rifles
« on: March 28, 2006, 07:11:56 PM »
Cyrille here:
 I was wondering if the .45 caliber Colt or Long Colt ( I know that they are one and the same) with 'cowboy loads can be used for hunting hogs and deer-sized game or should I go to heavier powder/bullet loads? As of now I shoot a 200gr. bullet in front of Cas acceptable 'cowboy' powder loads in my old style Ruger Vaquero and a 250gr. bullet from my American made rifles i.e. a Winchester model 94 "Trails End" and a Henry "Big Boy" both in .45 Colt Caliber.
 Any information will be most appreciated.

I wouldn't try a hog with a "cowboy load"!!!!!! :o

That 94 will handle much hotter loads, look up some load data for Ruger and TC only. (The 94 will handle it fine,in fact it will eat loads that are actually hotter than .44mag full house and jist shrug and ask fer more)

Thanks Mr. Cuts;
     I thought that a 'cowboy' load would be a bit on the light side for hogs. The Ruger T.C. loads seem a bit awesome to say the least, but I'll give them a try next fall, after I practice with them a lot.
