10.5 mm Vetterli brass?
« on: February 21, 2006, 08:19:51 PM »
Howdy,

I may have an opportunity to buy a Swiss Vetterli in 10.5 mm.  The bore is good, but not flawless.

Where would I look for brass and loading data?

I have wanted one of these since I was in High School!  [45th reunion this Sept.]  I have seen some of the later ones in 6.5 mm, but this is only the 2nd one in 10.5 mm.

Thanks!

Dr. Bob,

The 10.4x38 Swiss Vetterli uses a bottle necked black powder rim fire cartridge. It is possible to convert these to center fire. I believe cases can be made from 348 Winchester brass. Try Google for more info on this subject.

Howdy Bull,

Thanks!  You are 100% right.  Fox Creek Kid supplied a link to an article on the conversion and Lone Gunman one to Buffalo Arms, who make the brass.  I found a gentleman in Texas who had a mold made from a bullet that he extracted from an original cartridge.  For $155 + shipping I can get 100 empty brass & 200 bullets.  The guy with the bullets suggest 55 gr. of black powder.

When my pension meney come 3/1 I will buy the rifle and the components.  WaaaaHooo! ;D ;D ;D  Calling the gunsmith this afternoon!

BTW: There were civilian versions mad as sporting rifles that used the same round but in centerfire.
