I am kind of surprised that there will not be an Originals Contest or indotrination or something at the Convention to assist in the ringing in of the new catagory when the Congress approves it as a class....Did I miss something?  Is it to late to pull something together?

let me see..........Matt?

Did we have a contest for working cowboy (what ever we call it?) or any of the other classes when they were approved? I think not Huh For those interested there will be a table with information regarding the originals class whether it is approved or not...

Part of the idea behind the table is kind of a do-it-yourself seminar.  The "Originals" table will be right next to an absolutely wonderful vendor who sells books.  It will be staffed by certified (and certifiable) "Originals" and they will assist anybody who wishes to join the ranks.  It should be fun.

There are seminars at the conventions about Original/Authentic items.  Just last year I believe it was presented by members of River City Junction Traders  Grin.  They discussed the use and general appearances of authentic apparel and accoutrements.  Also the gentleman that was there handmaking original boots. He was more than willing to talk and discuss his items.  The gentleman outside the doors(Steve Caldwell) showing off the original/authentic military equip.  The hurst carriage and medical equipment.
Even you Matt where behind a table in an original looking military uniform promoting something (sorry don't remember what, sorry about that)

That is what NCOWS is all about or am I missing something.  New shooting category or not, we all do qualify, to take part in, if we want too.  It is a voluntary shooting category.

James,
You really get up early..............!! I beleive what Matt meant to say was Indoctrination, "meaning to imbue with a usually partisan or sectarian opinion, point of view, or principle"  Kinda like Christianity or Manifest Destiny of the late 19th Century......Or, the Indian Boarding schools..........if you get my drift Wink I don't think the concept behind the originals was to indoctrinate anyone I am aware of??

Matt, I don't think they're tryin' ta beat you.  As a matter of fact, they'd probably rather have you as one of the Originals!  You're nothin if not Original! Wink Grin

Altho I'm not a certified (perhaps certifiable  Roll Eyes ) original, I hope to be and there WILL be a table at the Convention!

See you there!

  The table is going to be an "All Weekend Seminar" available to answer questions, show different examples of what different "Originals" did to qualify. Also if someone has their Persona and documentation together it would be a great time to become an "original".
  I think that some believe the Originals want to diminish shooting as part of the competition. This is NOT the case. We enjoy shooting as much as the next person . Without the shooting venue, the originals don't have a competition. It is Not just a "Costume Contest" It IS a group of Like Minded Individuals who want to be able to relive the old west as closely as possible. and to shoot the guns of the old west THE WAY THEY WERE used.      jt

I forgot to mention that one seminar this year will be appropriate to those who want to cary thier impression to level 3.  "What's In Your Pocket" by St. George will help fill out the details of your outfit, whether you decide to become an Original or not.

Might have my stuff together for the GAF Muster if they do it, but I want to shoot the smokeless Duelist class, so I don't know if it is a direct match....

If I am not mistaken it is SASS events that 'have' or 'advertise' Costume Contests.  They have been doing that for a number of years.

Never saw one at either NCOWS Nationals.

Bill, the short answer to your question"what's holding you up?" is that I want to have my S#&* together!  In other words, the documentation.

When I do this, I want to do it RIGHT!
