I just had to share this story.   A friend of mine in Tucson sent me an emule since he is not that familiar with older handguns.

A widow lady, wife of an old friend of his, lives in So. Calif and since my friend had bought some of her late husbands guns she approached him about this.  In 1960 a friend of hers from work was short on funds and sold her an old pistol for $25, all these years the children and her have used this pistol for cracking walnuts.  Here is the kicker, stamped on the pistol is Pat. Sept. 19, 1858 E. Remington and Sons, Co.  She was wondering if this pistol was worth anything? 

Why couldn't it be me?

wow ..are you on the spot !!  what to be , behonest ....... or ........ tell her the walnut cracker is worth a hundred bucks now days .... and she has a buyer in mississippi .......      //nope cowboy up , bad as it hurts .

That is what I did, Cowboy'd up and told her that if it was operable and in good condition it would probably be worth about $2200, one local gun shop, that critter only offered her $275 for it.....I guess he figgered that since it were a lady she wouldn't know any diffferent.   What happened to honesty in business today?

Thats true just thinik if we could get the whole country to cowboy up !  glad ya did the right thing ! knew ya would ! bet it put a mile of smile on the ladys face !

That must do quite a job on those nuts! 

As far as value,  It COULD be worth $2000+, depending on condition, but it would have to be really nice. The Remingtons don't seem to bring the prices of the Colts, even though they were considered superior in several ways.

The average price for a regular Remington NMA usually falls in the $900-$1500 range.  You could get a good idea on value by checking out Gunbroker.com or Auction Arms.

Thanks John,   My main thing is I just didn't want to see the lady cheated.   And of course, I sure wish it had been me that got it for $25....LOL

Thinking about americans stickin it to americans ... my wife`s car is in the transmission shop today ... talk about the worlds biggest rip off .. it use to be tv repair shops untill they started makein them so cheap in japan , now just toss and go to wally world and buy a new one cheaper .  ( nothing to do with remmies .. but the transmission shop is getting into my remmie buying moneys )
