GAF Muster 2006

I know I am not supposed to talk about the GAF Muster on this board, but I reckon once the Joss House, Lone Gunman and Will Ketchum read this, the will let it slide....
Well,
This is the most difficult post that I have ever made. It is my sad duty to report that I will not be building the GAF Match for 2006. There are a number of personal and professional considerations that demanded to be factored into this decision.
I will list some of them to avoid questions if this becomes a thread....
1. The 2005 event took me over 200 man hours to build it. That breaks down to 5 weeks of 40 hour weeks.
2. There are family considerations. I do have to draw back.
3. I felt that $80.00 per shooter was fair for what was given but was opposed to raising the cost. The cost model for 2006 would have required me to raise the registration fee and I am not going to do that.
4. I have been given additional responsibilities professonally. Unfortunately, I am not getting promoted, I am just not getting laid off, yet I reckon anybody in Corporate America can identify with this strange phanominon.....
I am proud of what we have done. We have shown that GAF can be more than just a web ring where people give meaningless orders and discuss uniform details. I am not leaving GAF or CAS (SASS or NCOWS), but I will be needing to put those 5 weeks back into my family and career in 2006. If anybody is interested in picking up the challange, please contact me off-line and I will assist in answering questions and providing information that you may find benificial.
Thank you and I can't tell you how much this stinks typing this post. I truly have to give up something I love.

Sorry to hear that!!
Many (most? all?) of us have had to make such decisions. Unfortunately, even the most capable and energetic of us have our limits.
Best wishes for finding a replacement, be it a team or an individual!!

Major Matt, I know how much you enjoyed putting on the Muster. Although I have been unable to attend I have heard how much fun your match was.
I realize it must have been a tough decision but can certainly understand you reasoning. Family comes first and then what ever it is that provides for that family.
I hope everything works out for you.

Good News to report. Kayleen and Steve have agreed to step up and build the match. So, the Muster will not die. Not sure when the date will be, but I will be transitioning all Match Director type stuff to her over the next few days....
A BIG THANKS TO STEVE AND KAYLEEN!

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeee haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw!
Thanks Steve and Kayleen.
The driving distance is half of what Garnett was. I might be able to come down early and help setup. We can talk about it at the convention if ya want.

Well folks mark your calendars for OCTOBER 5-8, 2006. GAF Muster will be one week latter that discussed at the 2005 shoot.
For those of you that have never been to the Ackley, Iowa range, here is a list of what we have to offer.
1. Showers and Drinking water.
2. Towels, soap and shampoo provided
3. Electriicity, primitive camping area with a view.
4. Fire wood, compliments of the Social Club
5. Great food
6. Distances up to 1000 yds for long range enthusists. If you want a big cahllenge, 1200yds canbe arranged.
7. Night shoot
8. Sporting clays and many side matches.
9. Wooded area walk through for clays.( this is one of the toughest courses there is out here as you window of oppertunity is quite small.)
10. Evening entertainment. Let me know what you want!!!!
I am open to ideas. This shoot is fun and has lots of shooting.
Please feel free to contact me at:
groninga@mycns.net
I look forward to this event.

That's really good news, attending the Midwest Regional and the GAF Muster on back to back weekends was going to be a strain.

Unfortunately, those dates will prevent my attendance - my own club's main autumn shoot is always held on that weekend - Columbus Day in the US is always the same date as Thanksgiving Day up here north of the Medicine Line - and that is "the" weekend ....
