Need dimensions for Spencer Wooden Ammo box

I want to recreate the wooden ammo crate that held the 1008 rounds of Crittendon and Tibbal ammo.. The image attached shows a box, whose image I picked up on this site but cannot find it now.. What I need to know is what are the interior dimensions of the box and how would the cardboard boxes have been arranged inside. Any ideas out there??  Also what is the dimension of the wood in terms of thickness .. I would guess the wood is .75 inch thick, but may be an inch.
This box would have held 28 boxes measuring 4" x 2" x 4.25" in some configuration.

Very Good.. Thank You .. My math skills are challenged .  Yes, 24 packs in a box = 1008 cartridges.. Fits in 2 tiers of 12 boxes, arranged in 2 rows.. Width is a bit over the 8.5 inches needed but there might have been a 1/2 inch spacer in there to keep the cartridges from shifting. Keep em nice and tight!!

I will be using the early label so ammo will match the Chickering address.

The one thing that is a bit odd is that with the weight a box like this would have, you would think it would have handles such as found on the standard rille musket box. The images posted show no evidence of that, at least in the traditional spot.. Any Thoughts??  it is not a dovetailed box which most arsenals would use, so a cheaper box to make originally and may explain not doing the handles as just more materials and more labor to make it.  I have not seen an original C%T box.

Good image.. I was thinking about that early Chickerings box with the red lettering on what looks like black paint. (original post) There doesn't seem to be any indents or handles on that particular one. It might have been one of those Ooops things that was corrected later in the contract.
