Rivet size on infantry waist belt?
« on: November 29, 2018, 05:02:20 PM »
Can anybody tell me the correct sized rivets to use on a waist belt? I wasnt sure if this goes better here or in the leather shop.

I'm assuming you are talking about the M-1872 & 1874 belts.

I'm away from any of my belts right now but they were pretty small. The hardest thing about finding the right rivets is that they were brass(which, of course, makes them harder to work with too!).

Just curious...
'If' the brass rivets are more difficult to work with, assuming one is trying to pound it through then lock in the keeper piece, wouldn't it work out to make a smaller hole first with a punch or suchlike then install the sized brass rivet keeper into that hole? Hope it makes sense, sounds feasible and less likely to tear, etc., maybe not, I dunno.
Just a thought anyway.

Brass is harder than copper so what I meant is that "swelling" the end of the rivet is harder
