I had use a bunch of Scotchguard on them for that reason, so was a little surprised that they held the mud
Could he have been a staff officer and so wearing the dark trousers?

I wondered about the second part with the Dark Trousers as I found pictures of Cavalry wearing the later Sky Blue ones with the 1985 also.  Not sure what I'll do.  Wearing the 1895 as a dress uniform, I would probably shoes not high topped Cavalry boots and I think DRESS navy blue would look better.  Since buying both a Krag Rifle AND Carbine I got choices.

Do they make buckets of Scotchguard?  I'd have to dip white pants and probably the blouse too.
