scam artist on armslist
« on: July 26, 2018, 12:24:32 AM »
Greetings My Dear Netizens

if you want a laugh, check out this scam artist from missouri. he's had it up in various forms for well over 8 months.

http://www.armslist.com/posts/7870459/springfield-missouri-rifles-for-sale--remington-and-sons-1858--rifle--new-model---44-ball-cap--make-offer-

Remington and Sons 1858 Rifle, New Model. 44 Ball/Cap "Make Offer"  $ 4,500

he started out posting it as an "original piece of the old west" and presented it as an original.

I emailed him several times to tell him that he had a beat-up italian replica,
and pointing out ALL the differences between an original and that replica.

when he ignored 3 direct emails I contacted armslist and told them if he kept it up
i'ld call missouri state A.G. and FBI for interstate antique fraud.

then he changed the listing to what you see now.

today I emailed him letting him know that I am posting on about a dozen BP forums so we can
mock him mercilessly.

So that we never get scammed, what items did you point out that indicated it as a fake? It overall looks like someone stripped the bluing but the barrel markings look pretty "old". The wood just looks a little too good to me.

the most obvious and easiest to spot are
- the originals were only offered with longer barrels  none as short as the italian
- the original markings look completely different, different font, 3 lines of text,

for more details see here

hope this helps

My guess is a guy who got scammed, now trying to recoup his loss.   Years ago I found a guy selling a fake single shot pistol on Gunbroker.   I emailed him to tell him it was a fake.  Several foul emails later, honestly after the first ones, mine entered the nuclear state as well.  He confessed he was selling it for an uncle that had gotten scammed.  I forwarded that to Gunbroker.  I saw it on other sites, but thankfully no one ever bid as far as I could tell.

Not a fan of Armslist ever since I saw a fellow selling a TW Stake 16 gauge double.  It's not a fake and is a very nice gun; I should know since it's MY gun that he was showing pictures of...

Oh my yes, stealing images to try to con some poor shmuck into sending funds....
I used to track and report scam tractor listings on craigslist... finally gave it up as a lost cause.

Armslist admins are useless as well. they claim they are not responsible.
Oddly "someone did something" after I told Armslist about contacting the authorities if it continued....
