Henry "Golden Boy"
« on: June 13, 2018, 03:56:59 PM »
Always wanted my own .22 lever rifle since my wife bought a Marlin 39A. Since I own both a Uberti '66 carbine and a Uberti Henry in 44-40, there was only one choice - a Henry "Golden Boy"!

I bought the Youth model as it has the same length of pull as my CAS centrefire rifles, 13-1/4". Had the 'adult' version before and as much as I liked it, it was too long in the stock for me. Wasn't cost effective to replace it or have it chopped.

Just '0'd it with Federal bulk and bulk "Choot 'em!" CCI Mini Mags. The Federal won out giving a 10 shot off hand group at 15 yds measuring 7/8" x 1".

Had 5 rds of Federal left in my pocket so I fired another group and 4 rds went into 1/2" with a called flier.

That'll do ....

I just acquired one of these , I won't bore you with details as to how, "safe" to say when planets align  ;)  do the trade !

What came home is a H004 unfired, NIB including the soft case. This particular rifle is the H004 Golden Boy Rifle 22 S L & LR.

PJ is correct the length of pull is a tad long but it is one sweet plinker. Smooth as silk and with CB shorts I can shoot on my property
(5 Acres) with the audible report of an air rifle....  ;D

I enjoy Gallery Guns and have a Wincherster Mod 62 & my Dad's old Remington Bolt mod. 341

I bought my Grandson the standard Blued version of the Henry Classic .22 Carbine. I was impressed by the video's HRA offers on their website regarding disassembly, cleaning and re-assembly etc.

Henry made the return of the lever action .22 affordable.

I'd like a Win 9422 for the quality, butt the prices they command are ridiculous. My Golden Boy looks great and shoots as well as I can hold.

Beats me why they made the LOP 14" on the "adult" models. I read a review of the standard model done by a big man who didn't realize at the time that he had purchased the "Youth" model. After shooting it, he decided to keep it.

Now that I had some back pasture time  ;)

I can load 21 CB shorts in this Adult version (14" LOP ) and shoot it in the back pasture , less report that a CO2 Rifle.

read " Quiet "  No finickity neighbors or spooked beasties !    :D

I do believe, I'll get a Youth stock 13" LOP …but I do prefer the 20" barrel. Contacted Henry Repeating Arms and they will send a finished & fitted walnut youth stock for $70....

I looked into getting a Youth model butt stock for my Golden Boy, but Henry couldn't promise to match the forestock. Their advice was to sell it and buy a Youth model.

It wasn't hard to fund a buyer for it and now I have the Youth Model. I hit anything and everything I shoot at with shorts or LR.

There was a 22 uberti 66 in our gun shop a few years back for a good price, one of those I look back and still think I should have bought.

www.ubertireplicas.com will give you an argument on that. I recently bought a carbine.

UBERTI SCOUT   well Doggies !  sho nuff !

Come to think about I did see Uberti begin to offer this Alum. alloy  version a year or so back ,,,called it the Silver Boy as I recall … I beg brain fade .

However argument accepted , I was speaking about the Brass framed version from the 70's , they are rare find these days.
If found , I would have bought or traded in heart beat

The Uberti Silver boy has been around for three or four years. The web site lists the 1866 in .22LR. Retail price here in the UK is £945. I have a 19" carbine and last I heard the dealer also had a 24" rifle.

A little research

The H004Y is the Youth model   with 13" LOP and 17" barrel

H004 is the standard  with 14" LOP and 20" barrel

Henry will send the Youth Butt stock (13") complete with Brass butt plate fitted for $70 shipped

Numrich Gun Parts has the standard (14") complete with Brass butt plate fitted for $39.95 + $8.75 shipping
They don't offer the youth butt stock.

That 1" makes all the difference in the feel

Yes, that 1" difference in the length of pull may sound insignificant, but it isn't.

I recently saw a Uberti '66 in .22 LR on consignment, asking price $1500! That's when I decided a Henry .22 would suffice.

It not just the 1" either....

It tends to alter placement of my cheek and sight picture.  I liked the feel of heavier 20" barrel , more than the 17"  youth Henry,
I might could even work around the 1".  :-\
But I don't know if I can get around the totally different cheek weld on my standard the Golden Boy.
I have to work to get a sight picture, it just does not fall in place.....course when I do it's tack driver.

I'm going to order a Youth stock, I think it will do the trick , news @ 6  :)

I came across a nice nickeled full sized [not the short gallery rifle] Rossi dead ringer copy of the Wichester .22 pump some years ago. Not sure of the model numbers. It’s right sharp looking with the nickel finish and blond stock. Very slick shooter. It also doesn’t have the silly safety on the bolt that the later ones had. They occasionally show up. Always amazes me how Rossi, Uberti and Norinco could build almost exact copies of historic American weapons, ship them around the world, make a profit yet US companies can’t build crap and then go bankrupt. A riddle wrapped in a conundrum.
