1873 Saddle Ring Carbine Rear Sight Question
« on: June 08, 2018, 01:41:56 AM »
Hello,
I am new to the forum. I just picked up an 1873 Saddle Ring Carbine in 44/40 caliber. It is missing a couple of parts from the rear sight. I've attached a photo of what is missing from the sight. I've been looking for the sight parts online and haven't been able to find anything. Just wondering if anyone knows of a good place to get these sight parts?
Thank you!  :)

Is this an original or a reproduction '73?
The parts you need will most likely not interchange from one to the other.

Check with Dixie Gun Works. Be sure to tell them it is an original.
Other folks here may have better suggestions on places to check.

Thanks for the replies. Does anyone know the specific name of the part I'm missing on the sight? Just so I can find it a little easier. Thanks

If all else fails, you may find it easier to acquire a complete sight.  I might also suggest a New Smith Enterprise Rear Ladder Sight (Brownells)

If it is any help, here is my original carbine sight.

It's not my rifle .... but .... I do find it somewhat annoying some knuckle dragger took out the screw and pulled the slide off.  Probably for no really apparent reason.

It does make you wonder, why would someone take those parts off?  But after 35 years of collecting guns, I've seen people do some really strange things to their guns.

REAR SIGHT SLIDE

and the retaining screw from up top of the ladder (which is likely why the slide is missing)

I reckon I would make that slide part - a good dose of patience and a couple hours with a good little flat file - nd has posted a good picture to work off - you'll spend longer at the keyboard trying to find one.
However - I like makin stuff ...........some others dont ..........thats ok ..........if yre a collector I guess makin a replacement is not allowed ?

Hello,
I found the missing stop screw on Gunbroker and for the ladder slide, I tried the Uberti 1873 Saddle Ring Carbine replacement part. It fit and worked perfectly.  Sight looks good now.
