My choices for CAS
« on: April 18, 2018, 05:13:08 PM »
These certainly weren't the best choices if I wanted to be competitive, but I couldn't help myself.  I was totally swayed by the beauty of these replicas, and by how they operate.

Maybe matches should have style points awards. I see unique things that deserve recognition and encouragement.

Any kind of sass category handicapping system would be so convoluted and burdensome as to be unworkable but it would be nice to have some kind of handicap that would encourage the use of the Spenser. I wouldn't think that would be too hard to create. They are neat rifles. I don't think that I've ever seen one used in a match.

We (Clubs in my area) have had there or four guys shoot a Spencer as a Match Rifle.  Normally they only shoot the Spencer once or twice a season, it is fun to watch em run the Spencer and do the "re-load" to get to 10 Rounds.  Most of the guys use the Blakeslee Box (spell?) for their reloads. :D

Getting out of the usual "Rutt" can definitely be fun.  I shoot Henry Rifles (4) and consider the Henry to be other than "Main Stream" and they do draw some fun comments.  Some really dumb comments too  :o

''....Some really dumb comments too "

ain't that the truth hhhhhhhhhhhh !

one of my last SASS shoots ... maybe even my last .... I had a wag comment ...about the safe way to hold that Henry to load,
being as how he was in the peanut gallery, I looked him up and down .... relized he was "Parrot " even dressed like one  yellow golf pants & a red windbreaker ...

As srugged it off,  " nope  ::)  having shot them since 1979 owning 4 , currently 3 , never occured to me to load safetly !

These are great looking guns. I have never seen anyone use a Spencer Rife as their main match rifle. Very cool.  I have a Henry Rifle, but haven't shot it at a CA match yet. One of these days I'm going to trout it out. Cheers!

I've seen them used in NCOWS  matches ,  Dave Grayley with the Saluda Saddle Tramps used one in S. caroling.
and Capt. John used his in Cracker Cow cavalry matches.
