Change in 30-40 krag brass rim

I've noted there is some 30-40 brass becoming available, but it does not have the beveled rim.

I've always heard that the bevel was to assist in smooth feeding in the Krag rifle and that the bolt face accommodate that bevel.

Has anyone used the new brass in a Krag?

I've been working on loads for my Krag scout using .303 British HXP1969 headstamp which has no bevel and seems to feed ok. I've got some new Hornady without the bevel but haven't broken into them yet. Going to use up my old stuff first.

Military brass had no bevel.  In any case, the bolt face is flat, and the bevel or lack has no effect on feeding.  I load the new brass with no problems at all.  Went out to the shop and loaded up a mixed magazine, no differences noted.  OAL is the determining factor in Krag feeding.

Thanks for the replies.  Just received my order from Midway for the new Hornady brass.  The lack of a bevel made me wonder.

Have had my Krag for a long time.  Have never seen Krag brass without the bevel (Winchester & Remington).

That said, I do not believe I have ever seen an original military round.

Any idea why Winchester & Remington put a bevel on the rim?

WW and RP had the bevel because it shares the same basic brass as .303, and .303 does need the bevel for better feeding.  Oddly enough the british makers themselves dropped the bevel after the Enfield was retired, probably for cost in that the Vickers did not need it.  Watch this:
