Pssst .... "non-Cowboy" gun owners .....
« on: March 29, 2018, 04:20:21 PM »
Any one here own and shoot a Ruger GP 100? I just acquired one I intend to use in IDPA, a 3" model. Should have it in my hot little hands in 7-10 days.

This will be my first Ruger DA revolver. Most people I know with one love it, but they have 4" and 6" models. Ruger makes a model with a 4.2" barrel length just for us across the DMZ as does S&W.

Anything less than 4" is a "prohib" and grandfathered to current owners.

The GP 100s are tanks. Once you find out what loads it likes, try the Wolff spring pack to see if it makes the trigger any better.

I've put Brownells mainsprings in my S&Ws as well as lighter rebound slide springs and it helps. I don't like being restricted to using Federal primers exclusively due to light hammer falls. I want to be able to pop any primer.

I'll shoot the Ruger GP100 as it comes first before altering springs. "If'n it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is." is not my motto.

I've handled some S&Ws whose soft, mushy DA really pull put me off. I'm sure they were relying on the weight of the hammer to ignite primers. I like to KNOW my guns will go "Bang!" irrespective of the brand of primers.
