I just got from GunAuction Dury's Gun Shop an 1870 Springfield Rifle in 50-70. I know the auction called it a 45-70, but it is definitely a 50-70. Here is the link to see it.

I've been going over it and the only detractor I can find is it doesn't have it's original ramrod, the one on it is from an 1873 rifle. All of the markings are easily readable including the cartouches. The stock is darker than it looks in the pictures and like it says the firing pin spring needs replaced. Heck it doesn't feel like there is even one in there, easily remedied.

All in all I'm very happy with it and it adds to my 50 cal collection of a couple of New York Rolling Blocks (1 assembled from parts) and my 56-50 Spencer carbine. Also a nice addition to my Springfield set of an 1855 rifled musket, the 1870 trapdoor, an 1873 trapdoor, my 2 Krags, my 2 1903s and my 2 Garands. It's heck having six kids to collect for so they have an inheritance from the old man. Grin

butchsantiquegunparts.com    You can find the correct cleaning rod here.

Most folks just leave the spring out anyways.  You don't need it, the later 73's did away with it all together.  It rusts, breaks, then jams the pin.  Great buy, you stole it for that.  I do love the .50-70.
