Hostile Knife Sheath and Fair Weather Christian Rig
« on: January 16, 2018, 10:32:21 AM »
Posted this is the knife section but wanted to get the rig on here.

Added a knife sheath based on one the Christian Bales' character is wearing in a Hostiles movie still I saw.

I thought it would go with a rig I made a while back (shown here) for my 51 Navy Conversions...thinking about switching to a Scout persona next season.

That looks really good. It works nicely with that rig, too. Good work.

Thanks for the comments!

CPT Quirk - it's a 1872 "US" brass buckle...

I was asking about a style or name, I have never seen anything quite like it... except for the seatbelt in a car or plane. That's what the big square hole reminded me of.

It's a two piece buckle.  There is a hooked piece that latches on to the "seat belt" piece you refer to.

The picture attached is of the back with the buckle parts connected.

Look for '1874 Belt Plate' - they'll show up in the Regulations and the Quartermaster catalogs.

Good to know, thanks for the info. I have never seen a buckle set up quite like that. I have an old Union buckle that has 1 prong/hook that hooks into the tongue 2 prongs/hooks that attach it to the belt. I think it was originally a utility or box strap buckle.

That version is the standard waist belt plate - accouterment plated have two small wire loops and are affixed with a leather thong.

Good job on the belt. I didn't make Christians Fair Weather Christian, but I did build his saddle and horse tack. Most of the saddles and tack were mine. Christian purchased the saddle after the show from me. He wanted to put it in his living room. I also worked as the Cavalry Advisor on the show and trained the actors how to ride and drill as cavalry troopers. Hope everyone enjoys the show!

What type saddle did he use?

I didn't notice in the movie...

I built his McClellan saddle and all of his horse gear. It was an 1885 model McClellan.

Very very nice rig.  Love the knife sheath!
I have recently picked up a Uberti old style frame with 7.5 barrel....a cavalry model.  I have been thinking about finding a so-called fair weather Christian belt and holster for it. I would like something that would go together and work for a LEO in Montana around 1880. But I have not decided on a holster to go with the belt yet?
