1873 Butt plate
« on: January 07, 2018, 02:34:22 PM »
Just wondering if an original 1873 butt plate with sliding cleaning rod door would fit a Uberti rifle, or how close it would come. I dought it, but I have another 4 piece cleaning rod I would like to put in the butt of my Cimarron 73. I have a rod in my 1860 Henry, and know I would have to drill out the stock to fit the rod. Just a thought.
Thanks'
Reno

Never tried an original. Some of the older imports, Navy Arms and maybe some others had the trap door in the stock.

Don't know if it would fit, but the Chaparral buttplate has the trap door.  Might not be any easier finding one of those than an original.

Thanks for the reply men, It's just that I have an old 4 piece cleaning rod like the one in my Henry, and would like to put in one of the stocks other than setting in the safe. I also thought a butt plate for a Uberti Henry from VTI might work on my 1866 Yellowboy, being there are both brass and thought of taking the one off my Henry and see if it would fit but the sliding compartment door will not let it match up as I would have to work on the stock first. Just though someone out there has already tried this before.
Thanks anyway.
Reno
