And just how period correct is a .380 ACP Open Top?

Yeah Lefty, hope so.  But they don't need me at Shot Show this year so not sure if they will need me at WR either.  We'll see.

Just re-name it to ".38 Short Colt Rimless".

Here's part of an email that came from Cimarron today:

Last year we were excited to give you a sneak peek of our new 1862 Police Pocket Conversion in .380ACP. Well, after a year of hard work are now in the final process of getting the approval from the ATF. As long as there are no more surprises, we will be officially releasing the 1862 Police Pocket Conversion early in 2018. The 5 shot Colt Pocket Navy conversion comes equipped with the new patented automatic safety. This safety is built into the inside of the hammer, it is not detectable when gun is assembled and does not detract from the little guns authentic appearance or operation.

I am still trying to figure out what purpose it is supposed to serve.  A five shot pocket model would not be a legal main match revolver.  A large single action pocket pistol would have zero chance of winning a pocket pistol side match.  Pluss it has no loading gate to hold in the cartridges if it is pointed uphill.  It is kind of neat looking but I don't know what I would do with one other than play with it for an afternoon and then put it in the safe.

Well, I would say it is not aimed at CAS, which is a significant market but not the majority of of Cimarron's sales.

I'm still waiting for the Remington pocket pistol in .22LR that Cimarron has been talking to Pietta about for 3 or 4 years.

So the purpose, buy it on a whim,  and add Profit to Beretta's bottom line .

Since the letter from Mike Harvey mentions the safety hammer, I guess that probably answers a question some of us may have had, which is whether or not the OT's and conversions would be getting a version of the new safety firing pin system.  Sounds like maybe they will.  There are some reports of that new system not working 100% on Uberti SAA's when shot very fast like happens in CAS.

I have literally done this with several guns.  Bought a gun and "played" with it all afternoon and then put it in the safe.  Many have never been fired.  Trying desparately to stop doing this and use the money for vacation trips.

How period correct is a 44 caliber 1851 Navy ?
